Summary
Growing up together in a small Texas town, Joanne and Darla have been lifelong friends. Their friendship is so strong that, when Darla proves to be infertile, Joanna agrees to bear her child. Four months into her surrogate pregnancy, Joanna crashes her car just a couple of miles from Darla's home. Joanna dies; the child is born premature. A grieving Darla must uncover the secrets that drew Joanna out onto the road in the early morning of the day of her death. In doing so, she discovers truths that hide in her own life, her relationships, and her past. At the same time, she must engage in the greatest battle of her life--the struggle for the life of the baby that was intended to be her child
