Summary
"Nina Schmale was a pretty nursing student who smiled at fourteen-year-old newspaper boy Jimmy Moriarty when he was having a bad day. Now she's dead, her smiling face emblazoned on Jimmy's stack of newspapers. It's July of 1966, and Jimmy's South Side Chicago neighborhood of Jeffrey Manor has become national news. Nina and seven other student nurses are dead, victims of a monster named Richard Speck. For Jimmy, it's the beginning of a summer that devastates his peaceful view of the world. At the same time, the neighborhood reacts with bigotry and intolerance to its first black family. Everything Jimmy Moriarty knows is changing. He must decide if he needs to change as well."--Back cover
